Every Sunday morning at 11am, The Tail Wag examines something that made me happy in the past week.
House Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, have put together yet another special committee to investigate Benghazi. This would be the eighth different committee so far, and is going on parallel other Republican-led attempts to get to the bottom of this "scandal."
I had to put "scandal" in quotations because time and time again, the absurd Republican theories have been disproven. The most outlandish, which for some reason remains a Fox News talking point, is that Hilary Clinton told the U.S. military at some point to stand down.
It is an exercise in the absurd.
The GOP needs something to yell and wave their fists about. That has been their go-to move since Barack Obama became President Obama and nothing has changed. Since the disastrous government shutdown that finally turned a majority of Americans against Republicans, the party was been battered by the relative success of Obamacare.
No one will argue that Obamacare is perfect but the Republican's position, which was that the law was going to bankrupt the country and turn us into some sort of socialist state, was so wrong that the relative success has become a resounding victory. Throw in a really good jobs report and unemployment going down and the Republicans had little to yell about.
Or so we thought. So Benghazi returns for the Republicans to fundraise off of in lieu of doing any actual legislating. This plot may work in local elections this year but it will be another bullet point when we list when a Democrat wins the White House again in 2016.

"The hottest competition in Washington this week is among House Republicans vying for a seat on the Benghazi kangaroo court, also known as the Select House Committee to Inflate a Tragedy Into a Scandal. Half the House has asked to “serve” on the committee, which is understandable since it’s the perfect opportunity to avoid any real work while waving frantically to right-wing voters stomping their feet in the grandstand."
